Story of a primary trainee teacher
Posted on: 26 Oct 2026A primary trainee describes her experience of training with us.
"I trained as a primary teacher on the Sharing Excellence Partnership’s Lead Partner programme. From day one, I was welcomed into a supportive and inclusive school community, where the staff have gone above and beyond to provide the guidance and encouragement I need to succeed.
Having worked previously as a Health and Safety manager, I decided last year to follow my passion and make the leap into teaching, and prepare myself for a new and rewarding career in education. This programme is grounded in research and delivered by outstanding practitioners who are fully committed to supporting the professional growth of its trainees.
My school-based mentor and class teacher mentor have been instrumental in my development, offering regular check-ins, weekly review meetings, and personalised feedback to support me. They’ve worked closely with me to refine my practice and build my confidence. Additionally, at university I have learned about effective teaching strategies, child development, and classroom management. This academic learning has been crucial in shaping my teaching approach and has supported my practical experience by helping me apply research-based ideas in the classroom.
The blend of practical classroom experience and academic learning has enabled me to apply theory to practice. With the exceptional mentoring and support from both my school and university, I feel confident and enthusiastic about continuing my teaching journey and making a meaningful impact in the classroom."
